About us

The reunification of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin in 1992 was a unique event in its scale. During the 1990s and 2000s, almost all collections and exhibitions changed their location. Some houses disappeared, others were newly added. This development essentially reached a (temporary) end with the opening of the Humboldt Forum.

What did this process mean for visitors to the Staatliche Museen? And how was it perceived by the media and the public? These are the questions addressed by the project " wieder vereint" ("reunited"). On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the SMB's reunification, a team from several institutions of the Staatliche Museen developed four exhibition stations. At the museum sites Dahlem, Museumsinsel, Charlottenburg and Kulturforum, the question of the reception and perception of this process is explored here.

This website supplements the content presented at the sites from 8.10.2022 to 22.1.2023 with many more images, media and stories. At the same time, the project is not finished: By having the opportunity to contribute their own memories of reunification, visitors are invited to become a part of the exhibition!
